Millions of tourists from all over the world head towards Cambodia to spend their vacations to explore the mystical southeastern nation. Battambang, the north-western province of Cambodia, is known for structures with fabulous designs and breathtaking architecture and this distinction in architecture acts as a primary reason why people from all parts of the world are attracted to it. The legend of King Kranhoung’s staff is associated with the name ‘Battambang’ which literally means ‘loss of stick’ and refers to the story which says that after being thrown the King’s staff landed in this region.

Ba Set Temple is a special tourist attraction near Ba Set commune which was constructed by King Soriyak Varman I on top of a hill near the village. The magnificent Ba Set Temple is roughly 15 kilometers far from the Ta Pune commune and it has been there since its construction was done in 1042. If you want to view a visible evidence of French mark on Cambodian structures, you would not find a better example than this 11th Century temple. The Ba Set Temple is located on a special place as there is a close by 10 meters deep lake which provides tourists an opportunity to spend some relaxing time.

Another 11th Century structure, Wat Ek Temple also attracts many admirers due to the classical French touch in its design. Its construction was completed in 1027 during the reign of King Soryak Varman I and it lies roughly 14 kilometers from the Battambang city.

Although both Ba Set and Wat Ek Temples originate from the 11th Century, the famous Ba Nan Temple which was initiated by King Ut Tak Yea Tit Tya Varman II in earlier 11th Century was finished in the following Century by King Jayavarman VII giving it a nice blend of two distinct styles. Ban an is a place topping the priority list of every tourist heading to Cambodia and the Temple located in the Ba Nan District is reachable after a 15 kilometers drive from the provincial capital. As the Temple is situated on top of the hill, Koh Tey 2 commune, you should be prepared for an exciting 400 meters climb. You could not have asked for three more accurate specimens of a traditional Buddhist Temple than the three structures in Wat Ek, Ba Set and Ba Nan.

Another great place which lies in waiting for you is in Snung Pagoda commune which houses three ancient stupas on top of a hill. As you arrive at the hill in Snung Pagoda commune to get a tour of the three stupas, you’ll be dazzled by the magnificent 12th Century design used in the gates.

A favorite place of many foreign tourists in Battambang is the Sek Sak resort which gives people an insight into the natural beauty of Cambodia. Sek Sak contains diverse species of plants and animals and it is spread across a region of 500 meters with the bank of the river. Sam Puoy commune offers you another opportunity to venture into the greener side of Cambodia. Apart from stunning temples, the Phnom Sam Puoy also has three wells which are naturally supplied, while the Reach Kol Neang Rum Say Sork story involves mountains standing close by which adds more mystery to the whole place.

Cambodia’s cultural roots originate deep into ancient history, the signs of which can be found in its architecture and all of this gives you a great mix of culture, tradition and hospitability. Cambodia offers something for everyone as from large Buddhist temples to serene countryside; the tourists find this country as an ideal spot to spend their vacations, in particular, the Battambang province.
