How can you update your living room every so often without spending a lot? It needs constant tender loving care more than the other rooms, especially if it’s one busy place. If you have guests often, spends your free time here, watches home movies and plays with the kids, the more you should maintain a good-looking and comfortable living room.
If would like to remodel, but money is tight then you should remember that by setting a budget, you can have the look you want without killing your bank account. The cheapest method of making your living room uplifting is to do a good cleaning. It may take some work, but it will make a huge difference. Begin by gathering three boxes or trash bags. In the first box, put all the trash you find. Flip over couch cushions and look under the pieces of furniture. You’ll may be amazed of what you will find hiding. Who knows you might find a few dollars. In the second box, place all the items that you find that you no longer use or want and either sell or give them away. The third box is for the things that belong in another room. You will be amazed how much more space you have once all the shoes, toys and books are back in their proper rooms.
Everything starts with cleaning. Whether you’re organizing, decorating or just feeling bored, a good cleaning can do wonders. General cleaning in particular, tackles areas in the room that is not usually included in the regular maintenance. It’s time to clean the ceiling, walls, fan or air conditioner and small nooks and crooks in the living room. Whenever I do this, I always find coins and pieces of paper that have long gone into oblivion. I’m just about considering starting a piggy bank and a paper drive.
Look at the floor. Sure, you sweep, mop and vacuum, but have you checked under the area rug? That space needs as much cleaning too. Not because it has been protected by the rug that you can already forego it. What if you decide to transfer the rug to another spot? Too much dirt can actually stain the floor. Clean your rug too. If it needs dry cleaning, then bring it to the drycleaners. Dust it off, wash it or hang it outside for a breather.
If you are still not happy there are other ways to refresh the look of your living room as well. Try updating your room by painting the walls. Buy new curtains, drapes and/or blinds. Another thing you may consider is replacing the area rug altogether, after all you already have it outside.
You might also consider changing your area rug. Using a “new” rug is not just buying a brand new one. You can use a rug from another room as long as it suits the living room’s color and design. Alternatively, you can add another rug in the living room if you can spare some dollars. The living room will look great with another splash of color and pattern. Moreover, you’ll love the comfort that has been increased a notch with the addition of a new area rug.
